چکیده

related homeobox 1 gene, Prrx1, are up-regulated in the autopods of the bat wing compared to the bat hindlimb and mouse forelimb. Changes in the mRNA transcript abundance of several genes involved in retinoic acid (RA) synthesis, degradation and signaling were consistent with the down-regulation of the RA signaling pathway in the developing bat wing autopod. Signal from a microarray probe targeting the 5 0 UTR of the Meis homeobox 2 (Meis2) mRNA transcript, showed the greatest difference in expression in the bat wing compared to bat hindlimb and mouse forelimb. This difference was not seen for a probe complementary to the Meis2 C-terminal coding region. The up-regulation of a Meis2 isoform lacking a C-terminal homeodomain may play an important role in the sculpting of bat wings during development.

The Hox gene complement of acoel flatworms, a basal bilaterian clade.

Several molecular data sets suggest that acoelomorph flatworms are not members of the phylum Platyhelminthes but form a separate branch of the Metazoa that diverged from all other bilaterian animals before the separation of protostomes and deuterostomes. Here we examine the Hox gene complement of the acoel flatworms. In two distantly related acoel taxa, we identify only three distinct classes o...

Animal phylogeny and the ancestry of bilaterians: inferences from morphology and 18S rDNA gene sequences.

Insight into the origin and early evolution of the animal phyla requires an understanding of how animal groups are related to one another. Thus, we set out to explore animal phylogeny by analyzing with maximum parsimony 138 morphological characters from 40 metazoan groups, and 304 18S rDNA sequences, both separately and together. Both types of data agree that arthropods are not closely related ...

Back in time: a new systematic proposal for the Bilateria.

Conventional wisdom suggests that bilateral organisms arose from ancestors that were radially, rather than bilaterally, symmetrical and, therefore, had a single body axis and no mesoderm. The two main hypotheses on how this transformation took place consider either a simple organism akin to the planula larva of extant cnidarians or the acoel Platyhelminthes (planuloid-acoeloid theory), or a rat...

Hox and ParaHox genes in Nemertodermatida, a basal bilaterian clade.

Molecular evidence suggests that Acoelomorpha, a proposed phylum composed of acoel and Nemertodermatida flatworms, are the most basal bilaterian animals. Hox and ParaHox gene complements characterised so far in acoels consist of a small set of genes, comprising representatives of anterior, central and posterior genes, altogether Hox and ParaHox, but no PG3-Xlox representatives have been reporte...

Mesodermal Gene Expression in the Acoel Isodiametra pulchra Indicates a Low Number of Mesodermal Cell Types and the Endomesodermal Origin of the Gonads

Acoelomorphs are bilaterally symmetric small marine worms that lack a coelom and possess a digestive system with a single opening. Two alternative phylogenetic positions of this group within the animal tree are currently debated. In one view, Acoelomorpha is the sister group to all remaining Bilateria and as such, is a morphologically simple stepping stone in bilaterian evolution. In the other,...
